for the display of his splendor

Central Heights is a church that meets in Abbotsford for the display of God’s splendor. On Sundays we gather for worship, prayer, and to hear teaching from the Bible. For the rest of the week, we scatter as the people of God to follow and represent Jesus in the places he sends us.

In order to see the glory of God made visible through our lives individually, and as a community, we orient our lives around three main priorities:

The relentless pursuit of the person and presence of Jesus.

The lifelong journey of becoming like Jesus.

The active participation of every person in the mission of Jesus.

As we surrender to God, and he works in us, we believe we will become a people who show a lost and hurting world who Jesus is and join God in seeing all things made new.

VISION

Our desire as a church is to see the words of the
prophet Isaiah come alive in our day -

‘The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners’ - Isaiah 61:1

We are captivated by God’s mission for the church: to show a lost and hurting world who Jesus is and to invite all people to be transformed through a life with him. Simply put, we exist to display God’s splendor in the city by the power of the Spirit.

VISION FRAMEWORK

We believe this happens as we intentionally organize around three core values:

VALUES

DELIGHT IN JESUS

“I delight greatly in the LORD.” (Isaiah 61:10)

We relentlessly draw near to Jesus to delight in him through prayer, worship, and Scripture. The pursuit of God’s person and presence shapes our culture and fuels our desire to see God move in our day.

DISCIPLESHIP TO JESUS

“They will be called oaks of righteousness.”  (Isaiah 61:3)

We embrace the lifelong journey of becoming like Jesus. Together, we learn to  orient our lives around Jesus’ teaching and way, so that the Spirit of God will transform us into resilient disciples who display the splendor of God in the places he’s planted us.

DEDICATED TO THE MISSION OF JESUS

“They will renew the ruined cities.”  (Isaiah 61:4)

We sacrificially seek the renewal of all that’s been ruined in the world. God’s cosmic vision for the world motivates us to see every person actively playing their part so that Isaiah 61 can come to life in our day.

“Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’ And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”  (John 20:21-22)
